Abstract:

It is beyond doubt that AI will be the game changer of the next decade. Well-known examples include ChatGPT or the image-generating AI Midjourney. However, artificial intelligence is also an essential part of the IoT, for example in the automation of processes. When using artificial intelligence in the IoT, there are often special requirements such as limited hardware or energy resources. Special AI frameworks attempt to meet these challenges and there are also generic frameworks that are interesting for use in the IoT. The talk will give insights into current frameworks and AI acceleration based on Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). Furthermore, intelligent systems in the IoT often interact with people or process their data. To the present day, there are no regulations on this. However, this is currently changing, as the EU is working on a proposed law to regulate automated decisions. The core of the AI Act is the so-called risk-based approach. AI-based systems are to be categorized into risk classes to which different rules apply. For example, autonomous vehicles, biometric identification and software used to select applicants or in critical infrastructures are considered "high-risk". The AI Act will also affect the use of artificial intelligence in the IoT and it is important to get to grip with the upcoming law, the AI Act, today.
